This delightful project consists of embroidery with real metal threads, more commonly referred to as “goldwork”. We will be working with traditional methods of couching and sewing an assortment of metal threads in both silver and gold tones. You will learn to accurately cut and position padding, placement and manipulation of threads, and methods of tying on and off. This project is most suitable for beginners and intermediate embroiderers but is fun and interesting to anyone at any level. Working on a silk background, gold and silver threads act as color contrasting thread patterns. This interesting needle artform is bound to spark your interest, and if you haven’t already tried goldwork, now is your chance. The darling goldfish motif would look lovely mounted on a sewing basket lid or framed. Techniques included in this project include couching pearl purl and Japanese gold and silver threads, padding with felt, and sewing bright check and silver bullion.
